Hi Everyone

Welcome to the new look Ullapool Guitar Festival Web Site

Ullapool Guitar Festival  10th, 11th and 12th of October 2008

August 15th 2008

Just to let everyone know that we have been busy organising a trade show  for this years event.
Exhibitors so far are as follows:-
Avalon Guitars
Fylde Guitars
Moon Guitars
Nigel Forster
Avalon have once again very kindly offered to donate one of their guitars for auction at the Festival. I'll be posting pictures when they are available. Last years guitar was absolutely superb with fabulous inlay work, a very special wonderful sounding  guitar.
If you are thinking about purchasing a quality instrument then the festival affords one of those rare opportunities to talk to some of the finest craftsmen in the business; check out the links, the pictures speak for themselves. All the makers will have demonstrator instruments at the festival for you to get your hands on!!

Martin Taylor's son James will also be at the trade show to promote his guitar web site www.italkguitar.com if you get a chance, check it out as there is some really interesting stuff on there.
I'd particularly like to thank Mr Fraser Wilson of Inverness for all his help in putting the Tradeshow together. If you ever need specialist cables he's your man!!!

Update 5th of August

Just to let everyone know that we have Andy Fairweather-Lowe and Dave Bronze appearing this year!!! Andy  has been on my wish list for quite some time!!! He's a superb musician, as is Mr Bronze. If you want to know more then stick their names in Google, some very interesting reading!!!

The web site has now been optimised and we even have a gallery page that works!!! All I need to do now is get used to using the HTML editor software!!! So I will try and come to terms with that very soon. There are some great pictures up there + some films put on by my web designers, but I will try and get some more guitar related films up there soon.

I hope to finalise the line up in this coming week and sort out who is playing when and get an email off to everyone to let people know when individual concert tickets go on sale.

My contact details are on this site if anyone has any questions.

Ullapool Guitar Festival 10th-12th October 2008

Hi everyone

Apologies for the recent roaring silence but I’m afraid a few personal things came up and I had to focus on them for a while.

Ok a general roundup;

Festival weekend tickets are now on sale at a cost of £90 per person which entitles the individual to entry to all 5 concerts (in the Macphail Centre) and three Festival clubs (at The Arch Inn)

To make stewarding easier all concerts will require the ticket holder to wear/display a Festival wristband.

Depending on availability, some individual concert tickets will go on sale in due course.

Concert audience capacity is restricted to 250 seats, so if you want to see some of these guys up close, then don’t hang about and get your weekend tickets bought ASAP. Line up details can be seen on www.ullapoolguitarfestival.com

The Festival clubs will take place in The Arch Inn, 11 West Shore Street, Ullapool, Ross-shire, IV26 2UR tel 01854 612454. (So if you don’t want to stagger too far at the end of the night. I know they have some rooms left and would prefer to sell them to people attending the Festival, that way there are no worries about noise etc).

The concert room in the Arch is quite small and intimate and so entry will be restricted to persons wearing appropriately coloured Festival wristbands.

Festival weekend ticket holders- free entry to the Festival Clubs.

Persons attending individual concerts will have to pay a nominal charge at the door, to gain entry to the Festival Club.

Payment for weekend tickets

Please make cheques payable to the Ullapool Guitar Festival and send them to me at West House, West Argyle Street , Ullapool, Ross shire IV26 2TY .

I am sorry but we can’t accept payment by credit card.

Programme

Some of the artists are still sorting out itineraries and so the actual concert running orders will be posted on the web site as soon as they are finalised.

Workshops

Will cost adults £10 per head per workshop attended.

School age children free.

Workshop contents details to follow. But I can tell you that John Smith will be running a song writing workshop. Also that Tristan Seume is taking some time off from his teaching commitments at The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford (ACM) to help with these years workshops.

UPDATE

29th January 2008

I hope you have all recovered from the holidays and new year festivities.

We ran a New Year Ceilidh in the Ullapool Village hall on the 31st and raised quite a bit of money for the Festival!!! It all helps.

A huge thank you to all the helpers, your time and effort was much appreciated.

Anyway this is just to confirm that there will be a Festival in 2008; dates the 10th, 11th and 12th of October. So please put those dates in your diary now!!!

We have a new venue!! all concerts will take place in the very comfortable Macphail centre, there will be a bar and it has a very efficient air extractor system so we don't overheat!!!!

I am still examining the options for the venue for the late night festival club but I will confirm that later.

So far I have Stefan Grossman,Don Ross and Andy McKee (stick their names into google and have a look at some of the video clips they have on the internet, you won't be disappointed) Clive Carroll, Gareth Pearson, Johnny Dickinson and John Goldie are also confirmed along with  the welcome return of Hugh Burns.

I'm still working on my wish list and will confirm names as and when I get artists booked.

Best regards

Richard Lindsay

We are most grateful to Marcus Fox of Fox Design and Paul Parker of eg Studios in Leeds for this much improved web site.

Well that's it over for another year!!!

I hope those who attended had a great time!!! apart from a couple of members of the public who took a little bit of the shine off the event for me, I had a great time and fealt that musically this one was probably one of the best Festivals so far. Many many thanks to all the volunteers who assisted throughout the Festival. Also a big thanks to Limelight for wonderful sound and vision.

I'm also pleased to report that Rebecca Fjelle has offered to assist us in finding a sponsor for the Ullapool Guitar Festival., she has just launched a new company doing this kind of work and she has some rather tasty photos taken during the festival on her own web site www.arterial-media.co.uk which is well worth checking out.

I'm also pleased to tell you that a Mr Antony Bowring has gifted £500 towards the cost of next years festival if we manage to raise enough money to put the event on. So many thanks to him for that financial support!!!

So if it all goes to plan the Ullapool Festival will take place 10th,11th and 12th of October 2008.
